Signals & systems:  Fundamental knowledge towards AV systems.

Signal Processing:
Signal processing refers to the multidisciplinary field that is attributed with the study, manipulation and processing of signals & technology for signals, in order to achieve some well defined aim.

Multidisciplinary nature of signal processing technology:
Signal processing is multidisciplinary, it encompasses mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering & computer engineering & has found research applications & commercial applications across every field.

Digital signal processing is the field defined as being attributed towards the development, manufacturing, research, study, testing, regulation and manufacturing of devices that can perform signal processing operations on signals.

Video conferencing solutions: digital signal processing enables conferencing.

What is a signal?
What is a signal? Within various definitions, a signal can most rigorously defined as a recording of some phenomena to which some meaning can be definitively attributed, and provides magnitudes that are utilizable within algebra.

What is a signal to a computer engineer? It refers to variations between electrical voltages or currents, or electrical phenomena that can be mapped to some code – binary and provides tangible information/meaning.
What is a system? It is an abstract entity that has inputs and provides output. An electronic system can take in various input signals and produce a respective output. For example a projector may have inputs for 4 computers to display multiple screens within its projection.

The field of signal processing can largely be classified into two separate categories: discriminated purely on the basis of signal: analogue or digital.

Analogue Signal processing: analogue signalsAnalogue signals are signals or recordings of phenomena that can be plotted with a pencil or a pen. Analogue signals are rigorously defined as having the domain & co-domain are countably infinite set. Analogue signals in are continuous and can be drawn with a pencil or pen. An example of an analogue signal would be the signal of voltage output across a laptop charger
Digital Signal processing: digital signalsDigital signals are signals that are discrete. Digital signals are the result of sampling analogue signals, and they can be rigorously defined as having the domain & co-domain as countably infinite sets. Digital signals are discontinuous between their points. An example of a digital signal is the data stored in computers. Computers are essentially digital devices.

The table below illustrates typical sequence of events attributed with the sequence of receiving a signal and processing it towards an output through an electronic system:

Signal is within the reception of the transducer:May be audio, video.
TransducerA transducer is a device that converts some recording of a physical phenomena towards an electrical signal.
Electronic processors:Digital signal processors, & electronic processors are utilized.
Transmitter:A transmitter is the device that is the origin of some signal, provided towards reception.

Digital signal processors:

A digital signal processor is a specialized electronic chip, to be utilized for digital signal processing operations like sampling, filtering, measuring & compression of analogue real world signals.Digital signal processors enable audio and video conferencing & poly video conferencing system technology.
